This is a STEM program with a focus on innovation and research. High school students have a rare opportunity to pursue their own ideas, to be creative and to test their questions. Students work in teams and are encouraged to reach their potential. YiQ is recommended for students who have a desire to learn more or at a faster pace, for students interested in trying new ideas, and for students who would like to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) careers.
YiQ Scholars Program
YiQ Summer Graduates work on their research projects during the academic year. Students who complete earn the distinction of YiQ Scholar and are highly recommended for STEM careers. Our YiQ Scholars are equipped with over 100 hours of STEM training and mentorship. They also earn experience and develop skills in the following areas: problem identification, creative solutions, project scoping, proposal writing, project management, experimental design (science path) or prototyping (engineering path), data analysis, multi-modal scientific communications, scientific instruments, methods and technology. YiQ Scholars are eligible for applying to College Scholarships offered through Health & Science Innovations.
Health & Science Innovations offers STEM workshops to partner afterschool programs and schools. Many of the workshops are derived from the YiQ Summer Program curriculum. Here is a sample list of modules representative of the type of workshops that are available and that are being developed.
We provide academic enrichment opportunities for students from New August Public Academy North (Pike Township), Pike High School, Washington Irvington Elementary School IPS #14, Arsenal Tech High School, Park Tudor Upper School, John Marshall Community High School, and Providence Cristo Rey High School.
Selected YiQ Scholars receive a scholarship at the end of the academic year for their achievements. Scholarship awards are presented at the following YiQ Summer Program during the students presentations. To be eligible for this scholarship students most have completed the YiQ Summer Program, completed the YiQ Scholars program and be recommended by the project mentor or advisor. Our STEM Advisory Board will make the final decision each year regarding how many awards will be given and the amount of the scholarship awards. YiQ has served students from over 20 high schools in the state of Indiana.
Health & Science Innovations and the IDEAA Partnership are developing a comprehensive talent pipeline for jobs that are relevant to Industry 4.0, but especially in the areas of Innovation, Design, Engineering, Automation and Advanced-Manufacturing (IDEAA). IDEAA Programs include the Design & Rapid Prototyping Certification Program, the IDEAA Summer Program for Youth, Badging Courses, Workshops, Scholarships for further certification, Internships and other Work-Based Learning opportunities.
The IDEAA Partnership is supported by a Skill Up Grant from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, an Industry Council, Corporate Sponsors, and Donors.
Internships and Volunteering Opportunities
Internships are offered to college students seeking to develop job related skills through practical experience. Volunteering opportunities are available to all seeking to serve the community.
